Συγγραφέας

Ο Χαρούκι Μουρακάμι, που θεωρείται ένας από τους μεγαλύτερους σύγχρονους Ιάπωνες συγγραφείς, γεννήθηκε στο Κιότο το 1949. Γνωρίστηκαν με τη γυναίκα του τη Γιόκο στο πανεπιστήμιο κι άνοιξαν στο Τόκιο ένα τζαζ κλαμπ με το όνομα "Peter Cat". Το πρώτο του μυθιστόρημα, "Hear the Wind Sing", εκδόθηκε το 1979 στα ιαπωνικά και το 1987 στα αγγλικά. Ακολούθησαν τα μυθιστορήματα "Pinball, 1973" (1983, αγγλικά: 1985),"A Wild Sheep Chase" (1982, αγγλικά: 1989), "Hard-boiled Wonderland and The End of the World" (1985, αγγλικά: 1991), και αρκετά διηγήματα, που περιλήφθηκαν στις συλλογές "The Elephant Vanishes" (1985, αγγλικά: 1991), και "Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman" (2005, αγγλικά: 2006). Η εμπορική επιτυχία ήρθε με το επόμενο μυθιστόρημά του, "Norwegian Wood" (από τον τίτλο του τραγουδιού των Beatles, 1987 στα ιαπωνικά, 2000 στα αγγλικά), το οποίο τον έκανε διάσημο στη χώρα του, πούλησε περισσότερα από 10 εκ. αντίτυπα σε όλο τον κόσμο και μεταφέρθηκε στην οθόνη. Η επιτυχία συνόδευσε και τα επόμενα βιβλία του: "Dance Dance Dance" (1988, αγγλικά: 1994), "South of the Border, West of the Sun" (1992, αγγλικά: 2000), "The Wind-up Bird Chronicle" (1995, αγγλικά: 1997), "Underground" (το πρώτο δοκιμιακό του έργο, 1998, αγγλικά: 2000), "Sputnic Sweetheart" (1999, αγγλικά: 2001), "After the Quake" (διηγήματα, 2000, αγγλικά: 2002), "Kafka on the Shore" (μυθιστόρημα, 2002, αγγλικά: 2005), "After Dark" (μυθιστόρημα, 2004, αγγλικά: 2007), "What I Talk About When I Talk About Running" (δοκίμιο, με ειρωνική αναφορά του τίτλου στον Ρέιμοντ Κάρβερ, 2007, αγγλικά: 2008), "1Q84" (μυθιστόρημα-ποταμός σε τρία μέρη, 2009-2010, αγγλικά: 2011). Το νέο του μυθιστόρημα έχει τίτλο "Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage", 2013 (στην Ιαπωνία), και αναμένεται να εκδοθεί στα αγγλικά το 2014. Έχει μεταφράσει στα ιαπωνικά έργα του Φ. Σκοτ Φιτζέραλντ, του Τρούμαν Καπότε, του Τζον Ίρβινγκ και του Ρέιμοντ Κάρβερ. Έχει τιμηθεί με τα βραβεία Franz Kafka και Jerusalem, καθώς και το σημαντικότερο λογοτεχνικό βραβείο της Ιαπωνίας, το Yomiury. Τα έργα του έχουν μεταφραστεί σε περισσότερες από 40 γλώσσες.
