Συγγραφέας

Ο Χρήστος Τσιόλκας γεννήθηκε στη Μελβούρνη το 1965. Παιδί Ελλήνων μεταναστών της εργατικής τάξης, αριστερός και ομοφυλόφιλος, έχει χαρακτηριστεί "ένας από τους κορυφαίους σύγχρονους μυθιστοριογράφους της Αυστραλίας". Τιμήθηκε με πολλά βραβεία, μεταξύ των οποίων και το βραβείο καλύτερου μυθιστορήματος από την εφημερίδα "The Age" για το "Νεκρή Ευρώπη". Το φθινόπωρο του 2009, με το τελευταίο του βιβλίο "Το χαστούκι" ("The Slap"), κέρδισε το βραβείο του καλύτερου συγγραφέα των χωρών-μελών της Βρετανικής Κοινοπολιτείας, ενώ το 2010 ήταν υποψήφιος για το βραβείο Booker.
