Ο Όσσο (πραγματικό όνομα Τσάντρα Μοχάν Ζαΐν) γεννήθηκε στις 11 Δεκεμβρίου 1931 και απεβίωσε στις 19 Ιανουαρίου 1990. Πήρε το όνομα Όσσο (Osho) τ0 1989. Ήταν Ινδός μυστικιστής φιλόσοφος και πνευματικός διδάσκαλος που κέρδισε διεθνή αναγνώριση. Η διδασκαλία του επικεντρώθηκε στη σημασία του διαλογισμού, στην αγάπη στη δημιουργικότητα και στην ευδαιμονία, στοιχεία που ενυπάρχουν στον άνθρωπο και τα οποία χάνει εντεταγμένος ων σε ένα σύστημα που αποτελείται από στατικά πιστεύω αυστηρές θρησκευτικές παραδόσεις και κοινωνικοποίηση μέσα σε αυστηρά νομικά πλαίσια. Ο Όσσο υπήρξε καθηγητής φιλοσοφίας. Ταξίδεψε σε ολόκληρη την Ινδία διδάσκοντας. Οι απόψεις του για την σεξουαλικότητα έγιναν αιτία να του κολλήσουν το παρατσούκλι "ο γκουρού του σεξ", (αποτέλεσμα του φοβικού συνδρόμου που κυριεύει την συντηρητική θρησκευτικοκεντρική κοινωνία όταν απειλούνται ο θεσμοί της). Το 1970 εγκαταστάθηκε στην Βομβάη, οπότε και άρχισαν να αυξάνουν θεαματικά οι αριθμοί των Δυτικών που έρχονταν για να μυηθούν στην φιλοσοφία του. Το 1981 εγκαταστάθηκε στο Όρεγκον των ΗΠΑ όπου οι οπαδοί του ίδρυσαν μια διεθνή κοινότητα με το όνομα Ρατζνισπουράμ. Η κοινότητα αυτή ήρθε σε σύγκρουση με τις αρχές του τόπου και ο Όσσο απελάθηκε από την χώρα με την κατηγορία ότι πα-ραβίασε τον νόμο περί μετανάστευσης. Επέστρεψε στο Πούνε, όπου και πέθανε το 1990. Το ασράμ του (το κέντρο του) είναι σήμερα γνωστό ως "The Osho International Meditation Resort".
