Συγγραφέας

Ο Robert Jordan (λογοτεχνικό ψευδώνυμο του James Oliver Rigney Jr.) γεννήθηκε στις 17 Οκτωβρίου 1948 στην πόλη Τσάρλεστον της Ν. Καρολίνας των Η.Π.Α. Ύστερα από τη θητεία του στο πόλεμο του Βιετνάμ -όπου παρασημοφορήθηκε για τον ηρωισμό και την ανδρεία του εγγράφηκε στη Στρατιωτική Σχολή της Ν. Καρολίνας, όπου απέκτησε πτυχίο φυσικού. Μετά την αποφοίτηση του απασχολήθηκε στο Ναυτικό των Η.Π.Α. ως πυρηνικός μηχανικός. Ξεκίνησε τη συγγραφή το 1977. Καταπιάστηκε με διάφορα λογοτεχνικά εγχειρήματα, μεταξύ των οποίων κριτικές θεάτρου και χορού, καθώς και μια εκτενή σειρά μυθιστορημάτων με ήρωα τον Κόναν, τον γνωστό χαρακτήρα του Robert Howard. Το 1990 εξέδωσε το πρώτο βιβλίο της σειράς "Ο Τροχός του Χρόνου" -από τις σημαντικότερες και πιο επιτυχημένες δημιουργίες σε ολόκληρη την ιστορία της φανταστικής λογοτεχνίας. Οι αρχικές εκτιμήσεις περί ολοκλήρωσης της σειράς σε έξι τόμους διαψεύστηκαν από την αστείρευτη δημιουργικότητα του Jοrdan, που άφησε την πένα μαζί με την τελευταία του πνοή, στις 16 Σεπτεμβρίου του 2007 κατά τη συγγραφή του δωδέκατου τόμου του "Τροχού του Χρόνου". Ανάμεσα στους αγαπημένους του συγγραφείς συγκαταλέγονταν οι Ρόμπερτ Χάινλαϊν, Λούις Λ΄ Αμούρ, Τζέην Ώστεν, Κάρολος Ντίκενς.
