Συγγραφέας

Ο Michael Morpurgo γεννήθηκε το 1943 στην Αγγλία. Σπούδασε αγγλική και γαλλική φιλολογία στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Λονδίνου και στη συνέχεια δούλεψε ως δάσκαλος για δέκα χρόνια. Ανάμεσα στους μαθητές του ανακάλυψε ότι αυτό που πραγματικά ήθελε να κάνει ήταν να γράφει ιστορίες για παιδιά. Σήμερα είναι ένας από τους γνωστότερους Άγγλους συγγραφείς για παιδιά αφού περισσότερα από ενενήντα βιβλία του έχουν εκδοθεί και έχουν μεταφραστεί σε πάνω από 26 γλώσσες. Επίσης πέντε από τα βιβλία του έχουν γυριστεί σε κινηματογραφικές και τηλεοπτικές ταινίες. Πολλά από τα βιβλία του έχουν τιμηθεί με σημαντικά βραβεία όπως το Whitbread Children's Book of the Year Award, το Smarties Prize, το Children's Book of the Year Award, το Cercle D'or και το Prix Sorciere στη Γαλλία, το A.L.A. Best Book of the Year στις Η.Π.Α., και το The Silver Pencil στην Ολλανδία. Επίσης ο Μορπούργκο έχει υπάρξει Children's Laureate (2003-2005) ενώ του έχει απονεμηθεί η περίβλεπτη τιμή του OBE το 2006 για τη συνολική προσφορά του στο χώρο των γραμμάτων. Σήμερα ζει με τη γυναίκα του στο Ντέβον, έχει τρία παιδιά και τέσσερα εγγόνια.
