Συγγραφέας

Η Πατρίτσια Χάισμιθ γεννήθηκε στο Φορτ Γουόρθ του Τέξας το 1921 και μεγάλωσε στη Νέα Υόρκη. Αποφάσισε να γίνει συγγραφέας στα δεκάξι της, εποχή που εξέδιδε το περιοδικό του γυμνασίου της. Το πρώτο της μυθιστόρημα, "Ξένοι στο Τρένο", έγινε ταινία από τον Άλφρεντ Χίτσκοκ, σε σενάριο του Ραίημοντ Τσάντλερ το 1950. Κεντρική της δουλειά, η πενταλογία με ήρωα τον Ρίπλεϋ, ένα από τα βιβλία της οποίας γυρίστηκε ταινία από τον Βιμ Βέντερς το 1977, με πρωταγωνιστή τον Μπρούνο Γκαντς. Το τρίτο, "Ο Ταλαντούχος κύριος Ρίπλεϋ", πήρε το βραβείο Έντγκαρ Άλαν Πόε των Αμερικανών Συγγραφέων Μυστηρίου. Άλλα της έργα: "Βαθιά νερά", "Η κραυγή της κουκουβάγιας", "Το ημερολόγιο της Ήντιθ", "Μικρές ιστορίες μισογυνισμού κ.ά. Η Χάισμιθ, που υπήρξε φίλη με τον Τρούμαν Καπότε, τον Έρικ Άμπλερ κ.ά. έχει τιμηθεί με τα σπουδαιότερα βραβεία αστυνομικής λογοτεχνίας. Πέθανε το 1995 αποτραβηγμένη στην Ελβετία.
