Έχει τιμηθεί για το έργο του με τα βραβεία Μακάβιτι, Ντίλις, Νίρο Γουλφ, Όντι, Ρίντλεϊ, Το Γεράκι της Μάλτας (Ιαπωνία), .38 Caliber, Grand Prix (Γαλλία) και Μπανκαρέλα (Ιταλία), και έχει διατελέσει πρόεδρος της Ένωσης Συγγραφέων Μυστηρίου της Αμερικής.
